The following are links to credible sources of information on a variety of child development and parent education issues. Some websites are targeted more to professionals, others to the public and some to both. Many of the websites provide information in Spanish as well as in English. Zero to Three www.zerotothree.org Zero to Three is a leading resource addressing the first three years of life. This website provides information on early childhood development for parents and professionals. There is an extensive section on policy development addressing the needs of infants, toddlers and their families. Bright Futures at Georgetown www.brightfutures.org Offers parent education materials in English and in Spanish. Distance learning and online materials for professionals American Academy of Pediatrics www.aap.org This website offers information for parents on a variety of children’s health and development issues, including safety and injury prevention. Website is in English only. The Child Trauma Academy www.childtrauma.org The mission of the Child Trauma Academy is to “translate emerging findings about the human brain and child development into practical implications for the ways we nurture, protect, enrich, educate and heal children.” Kid’s Health www.kidshealth.org This website is a partner of the American Academy of Family Physicians. The site offers practical parenting information for parents and special web pages for kids and teens, providing information on health, development, and lifestyle choices in a language they can understand. Children’s Research Triangle, Chicago www.childstudy.org Children’s Research Triangle offers various education and training opportunities for professionals who work with children exposed to alcohol and drugs in pregnancy. Dr. Ira Chasnoff, president, has also developed a program to identify pregnant women who are using alcohol and drugs and thereby placing their unborn children at risk. Children NOW www.childrennow.org Children NOW offers a variety of resources for parents and professionals addressing children’s health, safety, and education issues. Website includes tips for how to talk to kids about tough issues, such as sex, violence and drugs. Also offers a child safety tool kit. The website is in English only. Childhood Matters www.childhoodmatters.org In addition to a weekly radio show “for parents and all who care about kids”, this San Francisco Bay area organization offers information online on a large variety of parenting education topics. Radio shows are broadcast in Monterey County, as well as the Bay area. Nuestros Niños www.nuestrosninos.com This website is the Spanish counterpart to Childhood Matters. A weekly Spanish language radio program for parents is provided, as well as a variety of online parent education resources. Radio shows are broadcast in Monterey County.
