The following are links to credible sources of information on a variety of children’s health issues.   Some websites are targeted more to professionals, others to the public and some to both.  Many of the websites provide information in Spanish as well as in English.  Please note that SAM’s RESOURCES does not specifically endorse and is not responsible for the content of any of these outside links. 

American Academy of Pediatrics

This website is dedicated to the “optimal physical, mental, and social health and wellbeing for all infants, children, adolescents and young adults.”  All aspects of children’s health are addressed, including mental health, asthma, diabetes, obesity and safety. Information is geared to both parents and professionals.

Family Doctor  

This is a consumer-oriented website providing health information for the whole family that is produced by the American Academy of Family Physicians.  Topics in the children’s section address a wide variety of children’s health issues.  Information is available in Spanish. 

Girl’s Health

This website is sponsored by the National Women’s Health Information Center and is geared especially for girls.  Topics covered include the body, fitness, nutrition, relationships, safety, and future plans.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Website offers a wide variety of credible health information on diseases, health and safety issues that affect pregnant women, children and adolescents.   Information geared to the needs of individuals, public health professionals and health care providers.  Information is available in Spanish and other languages, as well as in English.

Mayo Clinic Medical Information

A part of the Mayo Clinic’s mission is to serve as a reliable source of health information for people of all ages, using the expertise of its 2,500 physicians and scientists.  Website provides information on pregnancy, infant, children and adolescent health and safety.  Information is in English only.

Medline Plus

A service of the U.S. National Library of Medicine and the National Institute of Health that offers authoritative and up-to-date information on a large variety of child and adolescent development, health and safety topics.  Serves both the public and health professionals. Information is offered in Spanish, as well as in English. The website also offers an illustrated medical encyclopedia and interactive tutorials.

This website is a clinical knowledge database, containing over 6,500 articles on diseases and disorders written by physicians for physicians and other healthcare professionals.  Under the heading of pediatrics are a large number of articles on developmental and behavioral issues in the pediatric population.

National Maternal and Child Oral Health Resource Center  
www.mchoralhealth.org

This website offers a variety of resources for professionals and for families addressing children’s oral health. Non-English language materials are offered as well.  “A Health Professional’s Guide to Pediatric Oral Health Management” and other distance learning opportunities are also offered.
